Communities Achieving Standards for Higher Living (C.A.$.H.). C.A.$.H. provides opportunities for working families to get, keep, and grow their money by increasing their incomes through greater use of the EITC; minimizing unnecessary financial erosion by offering alternatives to predatory practices; and maximizing financial assets through financial education, credit repair, and homeownership. C.A.$.H. brings together diverse sectors of the Valdosta metropolitan area and surrounding communities, including the City of Offerman, City of Valdosta, Coastal Plain Area EOA, Inc., Echols County Family Connection, Georgia Clients Council, Georgia Legal Services Program, Inc., Goodwill of the Southern Rivers, Inc., Internal Revenue Service, Jane Osborn, Lowndes Associated Ministries to People, Inc. (LAMP), Lowndes/Valdosta Commision for Children and Youth, Pierce County Family Connections, Totally Free, Inc. and the Valdosta-Lowndes Habitat for Humanity.
During income tax season, C.A.$.H. Prosperity Campaign operates low Income Tax Assistance Sites providing nominal fees for income tax preparation to households with incomes of less than $49,000 (the income range eligible for the EITC). In 2010, they helped more than 400 families claim more than $1million in tax refunds and credits. Last years tax season over 3000 families benefited from our services.
In addition to assistance with their tax returns, families who come to C.A.$.H. sites have the opportunity to connect with many other community resources and services designed to help them make the most of their money. Trained volunteers offer one-on-one conversations on savings programs, financial education programs, food stamps, free credit reports, job counseling services, and more.
